The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has developed a Military Combat Parachute System equipped with cutting-edge technology and capabilities. This Military Combat Parachute System was successful at an altitude of 32,000 feet. A successful combat free-fall jump test was conducted with this combat parachute at an altitude of 32,000 feet. With this test, DRDO has established a new record.
Can be deployed at altitudes exceeding 25,000 feet
The jump was accomplished by test jumpers of the Indian Air Force, which validated the reliability, efficiency and advanced design of this indigenous system. According to the Ministry of Defence, with this achievement, the Military Combat Parachute System has become the only parachute system currently in use by the Indian Armed Forces, which can be deployed at altitudes exceeding 25,000 feet. Based on indigenous technology, this Military Combat Parachute System has several unique features. The system has been jointly developed by two DRDO laboratories, Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment Agra and Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory Bengaluru.

DRDO says the Military Combat Parachute System also incorporates several advanced tactical features, such as its low descent rate, which allows troops to land more safely, its superior maneuverability, which allows paratroopers to exercise precise direction control, safe parachute deployment at a pre-determined altitude, and precise landing at the designated landing zone.
Joint effort with Navigation with Indian Constellation
The Defence Ministry says that this system is compatible with Navigation with Indian Constellation, which gives India complete autonomy. It remains unaffected by any external interference or service disruption. The Defence Ministry considers this a big step towards self-reliance. According to the Ministry, the successful test of the Military Combat Parachute System has paved the way for the widespread use of indigenous parachute systems. This system will not only prove to be more useful than imported equipment due to less maintenance time and cost, but will also reduce foreign dependence in case of conflict or war.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces and Indian Industry on this achievement. He said that this is a historic milestone in India’s indigenous defence capability. Meanwhile, Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, Dr. Samir V. Kamat praised the DRDO team involved in this test and said that this is an important step towards self-reliance in aerial delivery systems.
