The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant organisation, has claimed that it has established a presence in Pakistan’s Sindh province and threatened to expand its activities across the region.
In a video circulated on social media, a group claiming to represent a “TTP Sindh chapter” issued an appeal to what it described as the “oppressed people of Sindh”, calling on them to support the organisation’s militant campaign. The authenticity of the video and the extent of any organisational presence on the ground could not be independently established
The speaker invoked the eighth-century Arab conquest of Sindh by Muhammad bin Qasim and said the TTP would seek to raise its flag across the province. “I want to give a message to the oppressed people of Sindh on behalf of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan,” the speaker said, before calling on people to support the group.
“The day is not far when, on the land of Sindh, the same flag will be hoisted that Muhammad bin Qasim … hoisted,” he said.
The speaker also urged people to reject the influence of feudal landlords and landowners and instead join the group’s campaign in the name of Islam. “Do not waste your lives at the behest of feudal lords and landowners; fight for Islam, die for Islam,” he said.
The claim comes against a backdrop of renewed militant activity in Sindh, particularly Karachi. While Sindh has not historically been the TTP’s principal stronghold, security assessments have recorded the group’s activities and presence in the province. The European Union Agency for Asylum, citing Pakistani security sources, said TTP and the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group were involved in eight attacks in Karachi in 2025, reflecting what it described as the TTP’s re-emergence in the city and its broader expansion beyond its traditional base in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
