Iran today warned that it would adopt a new strategy in its ongoing conflict with the United States following the latest escalation between the two sides. In a social media post, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said Iran’s new strategy on the battlefield, in diplomacy and in countering the economic blockade would shatter the foundations of its adversaries.
The warning came after a fresh wave of Iranian attacks on US positions across West Asia, in what was described as the heaviest exchange between the two sides in weeks.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said its forces targeted US bases in Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq’s autonomous Kurdistan region. The strikes followed US military operations against Iranian targets, which Tehran said killed 18 people.
The renewed hostilities have further complicated diplomatic efforts to resolve the six-month-old conflict. Iran continues to put pressure on the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, while the United States is pursuing a counter-blockade targeting Iranian ports.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry accused the United States of committing a war crime following a deadly strike on a wedding ceremony in the southern Iranian city of Sirik.
US Central Command said the US military never targets civilians, in contrast to Iran, while not directly addressing the reported strike on the wedding venue.
The latest escalation began after Washington launched strikes on Iranian assets on Sunday. The United States said the attacks were carried out in retaliation for Iran’s alleged efforts to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on US personnel.
