PTI Accuses Pakistan of Deliberate Medical Neglect as Imran Khan Faces Vision Loss

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) raised alarm over the health of its jailed founder, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, warning that a reported eye condition could cause permanent vision loss without urgent treatment.

In a statement posted on X and cited by news outlet Dawn on Tuesday, the party said media reports indicated that Khan had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion in his right eye, a condition involving a blockage in the retinal vein that can lead to serious and permanent damage if not treated immediately.

PTI alleged that despite medical advice, jail authorities were insisting on treating Khan inside Adiala jail, even though specialists had reportedly said proper care would require an operation theatre and specialised facilities that are not available in the prison.

PARTY CLAIMS OF COURT ORDERS BEING IGNORED

The party further claimed that Khan last met his personal physician in October 2024 and that no medical examination had been permitted since then, despite directives from the Islamabad High Court. It added that a petition seeking regular medical check-ups had been pending since August 2025.

This is a blatant violation of court orders and a gross breach of fundamental human rights,” the statement said. “The government’s conduct clearly demonstrates that, in its obsession with political vendetta, it is willing to gamble with the life and health of a prisoner.”

PTI demanded immediate access for Khan’s family, saying this was necessary so that the public could be reassured about his condition. It also called for his transfer to Shaukat Khanum Hospital or another hospital of his choice for treatment under qualified specialists.

FAMILY QUESTIONS REPORTS, SEEKS CLARITY

Meanwhile, Khan’s sisters joined PTI supporters outside Adiala jail, questioning the authenticity of the reports and saying the family had received no official information about his condition.

Noreen Khanum said the family had not been informed of any eye condition. “If this is true, we should have been informed so that we could have taken him to the hospital for treatment,”

Aleema Khanum said the jail administration had not shared updates with either the family or Khan’s legal team. “So who has leaked this news?” she asked, adding that the family’s sole demand remained Khan’s release.

PTI later claimed that Aleema Khanum was stopped by police while returning from the jail, a charge echoed by the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan, which demanded action against those responsible and access for Khan’s family.
