During the 54th Session of the UNHRC in Geneva on September 27, Uyghur Congress President Dolkun Isa faced interruptions from the Chinese delegation as he began his speech in a general debate. A Chinese diplomat objected, questioning Isa’s status as a representative of the NGO. Nevertheless, UN Human Rights Council Vice President Asim Ahmed permitted the Uyghur activist to continue his statement. Isa used the opportunity to emphasize the urgent need for member states and UN bodies to address the ongoing Uyghur genocide in China, stressing the lack of substantial action despite the OHCHR assessment conducted over a year ago.
