Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, recently faced public embarrassment after citing a fabricated news article in the Senate. He presented an AI-generated image mimicking the front page of The Daily Telegraph, falsely claiming that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was hailed as the “undisputed king of the skies.” This image was quickly debunked by Pakistan’s own media, including Dawn and The Economic Times, which confirmed it was a fake .
Despite the widespread exposure of the image as a fake, the Pakistani Foreign Office has yet to issue any retraction or clarification . This incident underscores the dangers of misinformation amplified through AI tools, especially when endorsed by official state representatives.
This is not the first time Dar has been involved in controversies related to misinformation. In June 2023, he apologized for sharing a fake election schedule, which he had received from a former party senator, after the Election Commission of Pakistan rejected it as fake .
