External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Sunday attended the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Oman and delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session.

Jaishankar emphasized India’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and ensuring a stable and prosperous Indian Ocean region, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

During the visit, Jaishankar held bilateral talks with Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr Albusaidi. Both leaders reviewed the “full spectrum of India-Oman relations” and discussed ways to enhance collaboration in areas of mutual interest, the MEA said.

As part of their meeting, Jaishankar and Albusaidi launched a logo commemorating 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. The MEA noted that the logo symbolizes the “long-standing partnership” based on shared history, culture, and strong people-to-people ties.

Additionally, the two leaders unveiled the book Mandvi to Muscat: Indian Community and the Shared History of India and Oman. Brought out by the Indian Embassy in Muscat, the book highlights the deep historical connections between the Indian diaspora and Oman, underscoring centuries-old ties that continue to influence bilateral relations.

On the sidelines of the conference, Jaishankar also met with the foreign ministers of Brunei, Bangladesh, Iran, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius, and Nepal to discuss key regional and global issues of mutual interest.
