Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced that India’s first indigenously developed semiconductor chip will be ready for production by 2025. Speaking via video conferencing on the second day of the Global Investors Summit 2025 in Bhopal, Vaishnaw highlighted India’s growing capabilities in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

Madhya Pradesh’s Electronics Manufacturing Boom

Vaishnaw lauded the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in accelerating the state’s electronics sector. He noted that under PM Modi’s leadership, Madhya Pradesh has witnessed significant progress in electronic manufacturing.

Two electronic manufacturing clusters have been approved—one in Bhopal and the other in Jabalpur—contributing to the state’s industrial growth. Currently, 85 companies are actively involved in electronics manufacturing in Madhya Pradesh, reflecting the sector’s rapid expansion.

The minister also emphasized the government’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce, announcing the training of 20,000 engineers under the Future Skills Program. Over the past decade, India’s electronics manufacturing industry has grown exponentially, reaching a valuation of ₹10 lakh crore. The country now exports electronics worth ₹5 lakh crore, with mobile phones accounting for ₹4 lakh crore, and the remainder comprising laptops, servers, telecom equipment, and defense and medical electronics. Electronics has become one of India’s top three export categories.

Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Capabilities

India has made remarkable strides in semiconductor manufacturing, with five units currently under construction. The first Made in India semiconductor chip is expected to roll out by 2025, marking a crucial milestone in the country’s technological advancements. To support this growth, the government has launched an initiative to train 85,000 engineers in advanced semiconductor and electronics manufacturing.

Vaishnaw credited PM Modi’s leadership for driving India’s electronics sector forward and extended his congratulations to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and the people of Madhya Pradesh on their achievements. He also conveyed his best wishes on the occasion of Mahashivratri.

Madhya Pradesh’s First IT Campus and Investment in Infrastructure

Madhya Pradesh’s electronics manufacturing landscape received a significant boost with the inauguration of its first IT campus, spanning 1 lakh square feet. This state-of-the-art facility will focus on manufacturing IT hardware and electronic products, including servers, desktops, motherboards, RAM, SSDs, drones, and robots.

With an investment of ₹150 crore over the next six years, the campus is expected to generate employment for 1,200 professionals. The facility will also produce desktop computers, all-in-one workstations, laptops, tablets, and monitors, further enhancing India’s manufacturing ecosystem.

On the first day of the Global Investors Summit 2025, the Indian Railways and the Madhya Pradesh government signed agreements on renewable energy projects, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable infrastructure development.

India’s Vision for Future-Ready Infrastructure

The Modi government continues to prioritize future-ready infrastructure and capacity building to realize its vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The focus remains on four key areas: infrastructure investment, inclusive growth, manufacturing expansion, and simplification of laws to support economic progress.
