Germany’s Interior Minister says the government is working to return individuals without legal residence status to Afghanistan and Syria.
In an interview with the podcast Table Today, Alexander Dobrindt stated that Germany is aiming to organize more deportation flights to these countries.
“We are working on organizing additional deportation flights to Afghanistan and also to Syria,” he said.
The Interior Minister described the deportation of criminal Afghan and Syrian asylum seekers as “absolutely necessary,” adding that criminals cannot remain in Germany and must be returned to their countries of origin.
In July, Germany deported 81 convicted Afghan asylum seekers to Afghanistan on a flight facilitated by Qatar.
Previously, the Interior Minister had emphasized the importance of establishing relations with the de facto Afghan government, saying such relations are essential for implementing the deportation plan.
Dobrindt clarified that these ties would be strictly technical, not official.
