US ‘Monitoring’ Pakistan Election Results After Reports of Intimidation, Suppression of Votes

Washington DC: The United States has said that it would be “closely monitoring” the results of the Pakistan Elections 2024. The recent reports of intimidation and suppression of votes have raised concerns with the US Government.
“We’re concerned, and we share our concerns about some of the reports that we’ve heard coming out of Pakistan in terms of intimidation, voter suppression, that kind of thing. And so, we are watching this very, very closely,” stated John Kirby, the coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council
Kirby added that “international monitors” are in place to look at the tallies of the Pakistan elections results. The concerns regarding suppression and rigging of votes by the Pakistani military by Indian American Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi.
“I am deeply disturbed by the numerous reports that Pakistan’s military is engaging in vote-rigging and violence to overturn the results of Thursday’s elections. These latest actions follow months of targeted suppression, politically motivated arrests, and brutal intimidation tactics,” stated Krishnamoorthi.
The Indian American congressman further urged the State Department to delay the recognition of the winner “until these allegations are fully reviewed”.

Pakistan Election Results 2024

As per the latest inputs, former PM Shehbaz Sharif has been nominated for the post of Prime Minister by his brother Nawaz Sharif’s PML-N. PML-N is currently holding coalition talks with Pakistan People’s Party led by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Zardari agreed to withdraw his name in order to make way for his father Asif Ali Zardari as the President of Pakistan.
From Imran Khan’s PTI, Omar Ayub has been selected as the candidate for prime minister. Pakistan’s national elections were held on February 8, 2024. As per the initial results, Imran Khan’s PTI candidates led the race, followed by PML-N and PPP. However, no party secured a clear majority and are now working to form coalition and form the new government.
