5.5-Magnitude Quake Jolts Central Myanmar Amid Ongoing Aftershocks

A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Sunday morning. According to the country’s Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the epicentre, with a depth of 20 km, was located about 14.5 km northeast of the Wundwin town in the Mandalay region.

Earlier on Friday, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar at about 10:59 a.m. local time.

According to a report from the Thai Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Observation Division, a total of 468 aftershocks were recorded in Myanmar and surrounding areas as of yesterday, following the powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit the nation on 28 of last month.
The powerful earthquake that struck Myanmar has claimed 3,689 lives and left 5,020 people injured, with 139 others remaining unaccounted for as of Friday, according to the country’s State Administration Council Information Team.
