Indians and a large section of the Indian diaspora in Canada heaved a sigh of relief with Khalistani sympathiser Jagmeeet Singh losing the polls and quitting as the leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP). Besides the poor single-digit show of NDP in the federal polls, where the outfit managed to take a lead in only eight seats, Singh himself lost.
The party contested in 343 seats in the crucial federal elections. Singh, who was holding the strings of the previous Justin Trudeau government, himself lost the Burnaby Central seat from British Columbia.
As the news reached India, everyone- from diplomats to common people and victims of the Khalistani movement- celebrated the debacle of Singh, who was seen as a frontman of Khalistan support in Canada.
Aviation veteran Sanjay Lazar, who lost his entire family in the 1985 Air India Flight 182 bombing (Kanishka tragedy) by the Khalistanis, and wrote the book On Angels’ Wings, said: “Bang on ! The despicable Jagmeet has gone, hopefully forever, with his million dollar pension and his Maserati and Armani suits. The fraud is no longer part of Canadian Parliament !”
