In a major infrastructural push, India has developed a railway technology that no other country currently has. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the hydrogen fuel-powered train engine developed by Indian Railways is the most powerful engine in the world. He further informed that only four countries globally manufacture such train engines, with a capacity ranging between 500 to 600 horsepower.

Here are some of the key features:

  • Indian Railways has developed a hydrogen-fuel-powered train engine
  • It is the most powerful engine in the world.
  • Only four countries globally manufacture such train engines, with a capacity ranging between 500 to 600 horsepower.
  • The engine made by Indian Railways using Indigenous technology has a capacity of 1,200 horsepower, which is the highest in this category so far, according to Ashwini Vaishnaw
  • Only four countries in the world manufacture such train engines.
  • These engines typically produce between 500 and 600 horsepower, whereas the engine made by Indian Railways using indigenous technology produces 1,200 horsepower, the highest in this category to date.

Talking about the engine, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also said that India has achieved significant technological milestones. When the country can create a hydrogen-powered train engine on such a large scale, which is so powerful that there is no similar engine in the world, it shows the potential to use this technology in trucks, buses, tugboats, and other vehicles to develop powertrains.

Testing of Engines Soon

The minister stated that the first train of this kind will soon be tested on the Jind-Sonipat route in Haryana. The engine has been completed, and currently, system integration work is underway. We hope that the train associated with this engine will be operational in Haryana by 2025. It will be tested first, and if successful, it will be extended to other routes as well.
