A 12-member Indian squad for the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun has been announced. The event will be held in Nicosia, Cyprus from May 3 to 12 this year. Tokyo Olympian Kynan Chenai and seasoned Mairaj Ahmad Khan are included in the squad. According to the national selection policy, shooters ranked 4 to 6 in India’s rankings for the respective individual events have been selected for this World Cup.
The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) said yesterday that Olympian Chennai will lead the men’s trap trio, while Paris Olympian Rajeshwari Kumari will headline the women’s trap competition. The skeet discipline will also feature two Olympians, with India’s most decorated men’s skeet shooter, Mairaj Ahmad Khan, returning for another World Cup assignment, while Maheshwari Chauhan will compete in the women’s skeet event.
The Nicosia Shotgun World Cup follows two combined ISSF World Cups (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) in Argentina and Peru in April. The NRAI had previously announced the teams for the first two World Cups of the season, with Paris Olympics double bronze medalist Manu Bhaker being the only athlete to participate in two individual events during these World Cups.
