The third edition of India Energy Week (IEW) 2025 concluded on a high note, with Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri lauding the event’s unprecedented success, marked by record participation, innovative showcases, and strategic collaborations.
The world’s second-largest energy event, held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, hosted over 70,000 visitors, 600 exhibitors, and ten international pavilions over four days. With nine dedicated themes, IEW 2025 highlighted cutting-edge innovations and policy discussions shaping the global energy sector.
Puri emphasized that IEW’s rapid growth within three years has positioned it as a premier global energy platform. The fourth edition is scheduled to take place in Goa in 2026.
Unlike other global energy forums, IEW 2025 distinguished itself by facilitating concrete business transactions, exemplified by practical innovations like HPCL’s cost-effective biofuel conversion kit for two- and three-wheelers. The convergence of investors, manufacturers, and consumers, particularly in the display of flex-fuel vehicles, underscored the event’s dynamic impact.
Highlighting India-US energy cooperation, Puri said that significant progress in bilateral relations, especially in the natural gas sector, with India’s aim to increase natural gas consumption from 6% to 15% of its energy mix. He stressed the importance of US Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) supplies in achieving this target.
Puri also detailed key reforms in India’s Exploration and Production (E&P) sector, including the Open Acreage Licensing Program (OALP) Round X, covering 200,000 square kilometers. Regulatory reforms, transitioning from production to revenue-sharing mechanisms, have boosted investor interest. Proposed amendments to the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Act, 1948, developed through extensive consultations, are set to be presented in the Lok Sabha.
The Minister highlighted successful industry partnerships, such as collaborations between ONGC, BP, and Reliance in bidding for exploration blocks, and underscored the importance of transparent governance through policy predictability, including windfall tax implementation.
Addressing global energy trends, Puri said that the US administration’s push for increased oil supply, benefiting major consumers like India through new sources in Brazil, Argentina, Suriname, Canada, the US, and Guyana. He expressed confidence in India’s international oil and gas investments across Brazil, Venezuela, Russia, and Mozambique.
Puri celebrated India’s biofuel program, citing a current ethanol blending capacity of 1,700 crore liters and ambitious targets like 5 MMT annual green hydrogen production by 2030 and advancements in sustainable aviation fuel.
The Clean Cooking Ministerial at IEW 2025, attended by ministers from multiple energy-producing nations, showcased India’s success with the PM Ujjwala Scheme, which has provided 10.33 crore free LPG connections since 2016, making clean cooking fuel accessible to all households and significantly improving rural health and environmental sustainability.
